circle Circle

Draw a full circle in one stroke

A circle is the easiest thing to draw, and yet two people's circles almost never match. Size, roundness, where the pen lands first, which way it turns — the simplest prompt exposes the most habits.

What the engine watches

For the circle, the shape dimension cares about whether the loop closes, how round it is, and whether it was drawn clockwise or counter-clockwise. Placement and size on the canvas, and whether it was one confident stroke, fill in the rest. A closed one-stroke outline. Compares closure (start-to-end distance), roundness, aspect ratio and clockwise vs. counter-clockwise.

How people usually draw it

The most common circle starts at the top and sweeps counter-clockwise. The clockwise camp is the next biggest, and when a pair splits on direction, identical-looking circles still drift apart. You also see tight little circles, canvas-filling ones, and slightly tall ovals.

How to sync better

Don't slow down to be careful — draw at your usual speed in one sweep, and you'll match your partner more often. Agreeing to put it in the middle of the canvas at roughly palm size also helps.

A little trivia

According to Vasari's Lives of the Artists, when a papal envoy asked Giotto for a sample of his skill, he drew a single perfect circle freehand.

FAQ

Which direction do most people draw a circle?

Right-handers lean counter-clockwise, but it varies a lot. In Drawing Sync, matching direction lifts the shape score, so watching your partner draw once is revealing.

Do I lose points if my circle isn't perfectly round?

No. The score is about how close you are to each other — two matching ovals score high. It measures sync, not skill.
